Silent Night

A traditional Austrian carol arranged for Xiao
The First Noel is a traditional Austrian Christmas carol. The words were written in 1816 by a young priest, Father Joseph Mohr.

Two years later he asked Franz Xaver Gruber, a church organist and composer in the village of Arnsdorf. Performed for the first time on Christmas eve, 1818, the accompaniment was originally for guitar because the church organ was broken. Both men sang the carol while Mohr played guitar.

The notes of the free score (available below) are in Concert Pitch with Number TAB and finger charts displayed below. The recording in features a xiao made by Geoffrey Ellis in the key of D/G, however, using Number TAB or finger charts, to transpose, the song can be played on any standard Xiao.
